Jim grew up in Templeton Iowa, a small town located in the west central area of the state. He attended Templeton Sacred Heart School through his Junior year when the school closed and consolidated with Kuemper High School in Carroll, Iowa, where he graduated in 1960. The teachers at Kuemper played an incremental part in helping Jim make the decision to attend college. With their advice and encouragement, he enrolled at Creighton University just before the beginning of the school year.
After graduating in 1964 with a degree in Public Accounting, Jim worked in the field of public accounting for 10 years. From 1977 to 1996 he owned and operated a manufacturing company in Fremont, Nebraska. Over the years he was also involved in a pizza franchise, and until recently, was a franchisee for a home health-care company providing assistance to the elderly. Jim feels the teachers at Kuemper played an important part in steering him toward making the decisions that have enabled him, at this time of his life, to be able to help others.
The mission of the foundation is to provide as much assistance as possible so that all students can get as much education as they would like. Scholarships have already been established at Kuemper and Creighton. The foundation will continue to fund them and any other organization to help in the education of today's youth.
The foundation is operated by Jim Kisgen and his sons, Douglas Kisgen, who owns his own company in San Antonio, Texas and Darren Kisgen, a Finance Professor at Boston College. Jim has been blessed with seven grandchildren. He and his wife, Jean live in San Antonio, Texas.
